Camera photo transfer

Transfer camera photos
to your Android phone.

Connect your camera, receive the files you need, then select and export.
This guide describes the LensDock development workflow and the checks each step needs.

Development preview 0.1.0 · Android 8.0+

Connect the camera to your phone

Start with the exact camera model and the connection it provides. A camera catalog entry is a source reference, rather than a completed physical compatibility test. No tested-model list has been announced yet.

USB photo transfer

  1. Use an Android phone with USB Host support and a data-capable cable. Use an appropriate adapter if your phone or camera needs one.
  2. Check the camera manual for its required USB mode. Charging alone does not confirm that a data connection is available.
  3. Add the camera in LensDock and grant Android USB access. Check that the detected device provides file browsing and reception.

Wireless photo transfer

Wireless use depends on the interface, authorization and network conditions of the exact camera. Canon CCAPI requires an enabled CCAPI interface; manual PTP/IP requires the necessary setup. Sony SSH and Nikon experimental Bluetooth pairing have their own conditions. Nikon pairing does not complete the full SnapBridge Wi-Fi workflow.

Do not assume that a Wi-Fi label means any camera can transfer files through LensDock.

Download the JPEG / RAW files you need

  1. Open camera photos and refresh the file list when the camera is ready.
  2. Browse the available files. A thumbnail or preview helps identify a photo, but it is not the full original.
  3. Select the required files and start reception. Keep the connection available while you review progress and task status.
  4. Check the saved file result before disconnecting or using it in another app.
Preview and original are different files

LensDock has JPEG / RAW reception entry points. Actual format access and large-file behavior depend on the camera and channel. A RAW preview does not promise full RAW development or support for every RAW format.

Transfers above 4 GiB and recovery after reconnecting still require physical device validation. A displayed preview should not be used as evidence that a complete file has been saved.

Review and select photos on Android

Use local photos to organize received files or photos already on your phone. Record ratings and filter the collection to decide which photos to take into the next step.

This is a user-directed selection workflow. It does not imply AI culling or automatic judgments about sharpness, composition or image quality.

Camera files and local photos have separate entry points. If a photo is still only visible on the camera, complete reception before treating it as a local original.

Export originals and selection results

Choose the local photos you want to deliver, then use the output that fits your next task. Saving to a destination folder and sharing through Android are separate actions.

Original files
Prepare the selected originals for further editing or storage. Check the destination and export result.
File lists
Keep a list of filenames for organization or communication.
XMP sidecars
Prepare selection and metadata information separately from the original image. Compatibility with your editing software needs checking.
PDF contact sheets
Arrange photos in a document for review and discussion.

Optional NAS backup has a separate connection and verification process. Local export, upload completion and remote verification are different states. Receiving a file does not automatically back it up elsewhere.

If the transfer stops

Check task details, retained files and the connection before retrying. Recovery depends on file identity and the operations available through the current channel.

  • A channel with random reads may use checkpoints when the required identity checks pass.
  • A channel without random reads may need to reread the complete file and compare earlier chunks. That does not avoid retransferring the earlier bytes.
  • Unknown file size or an unknown task outcome needs additional checks. Do not treat either as a completed transfer.

Notification and progress entry points are implemented, and keeping the screen on is an optional setting. Lock-screen behavior, force stops and power management still need device testing.

Check your setup first

LensDock is a development preview. A public download channel has not been announced. Start with the model notes and use a trusted release when one is available.
